  • Blacksmithing 101: Sept 30th

Learn how to safely operate an induction forge, use an anvil, hammer and tongs. This class will cover basic forging operations with the goal of providing students with a solid foundation of commonly used and transferable skills that are the basis of most blacksmithing projects. We will cover tapering, flattening, twisting and bending to create a decorative hook. Students will have the opportunity to use the techniques learned in class to design and create their own coat hook or s-hook. Each student will go home with a completed project.

This is a beginner level class; no previous blacksmithing experience required.

Students must come to class with appropriate attire which includes closed toe work boots/shoes and long pants. Clothing must be made of a non-synthetic material, and long hair must be tied back.

Makerspace NYC will provide safety glasses, gloves and ear protection. Completion of this class certifies students to use equipment independently as a member or a non-member on a day pass.
